Army Techniques Publication (ATP) 3-50.21 sets forth the doctrine pertaining to survival in an isolated situation. The ATP discusses the tenets of survival and the methods Soldiers, Department of the Army (DA) civilians, and DA contactors can use when surviving individually or in a group.
The principle audience for ATP 3-50.21 is all Army personnel and contractors that might be isolated from others during a mission.
Commanders, staffs, and subordinates ensure their decisions and actions comply with applicable U.S., international, and in some cases, host-nation laws and regulations. Commanders at all levels ensure their Soldiers operate in accordance with the law of war and the rules of engagement (see FM 27-10).
