Previous: D-19: Types of Observation Posts

D-22. Based on METT-TC, leaders may array observation posts on-line or in-depth. (See figures D-2 and D-3.) Depth is the preferred technique for maintaining contact with a moving enemy along a particular avenue of approach. On-line placement is optimal when there is no clear avenue of approach or the enemy is not moving.
