E-2: Principles of Employment

Previous: Section I – Employment and Capabilities

E-2. The general principles for employing combat vehicles with Infantry Soldiers are—

  • So the combat power capabilities of the vehicle can support the maneuver of the Infantry.
  • So the combat power of the Infantry platoon or squad can support the maneuver of combat vehicle sections or platoons.
  • The wingman concept. To achieve mutual support, combat vehicles almost always work in this concept. The wingman concept is similar to the buddy team concept that Infantry Soldiers employ (operating in two-vehicle sections). Just as Infantry Soldiers never fight alone, combat vehicles never operate without the mutual support and evacuation capability the combat vehicle wingman provides.
