G-41: Engagement of Field Fortifications and Building with Shoulder-Launched Munitions

Previous: G-39: Shoulder-Launched Munitions in the Bunker Defeat Role

G-41. The M141 BDM was designed to better enhance the destruction of field fortifications and buildings. (See table G-6, page G-20.) The M141 BDM contains a high-explosive dual purpose (HEDP) round with a dual-mode fuze that automatically adjusts for the type of target on impact. For soft targets, such as sandbagged bunkers, the M141 BDM warhead automatically adjusts to delayed mode and hits the target with high kinetic energy. This energy propels the warhead through the barrier and into the fortification or building, where the fuze detonates the warhead and causes greater damage.
