Section 2 – The Exercise of Command and Control

1-16. The Infantry rifle platoon and squad within the Infantry rifle company can deploy rapidly and can be sustained by an austere support structure. It conducts operations against conventional and unconventional enemy forces in all types of terrain and climate conditions. The platoon’s composition and training uniquely equip it to conduct its mission. In addition to its primary warfighting missions, the rifle platoon and squad may be tasked to perform other types of operations semi-independently or as an integral part of a larger force. This section addresses the exercise of command and control, specifically the duties and responsibilities, and habitual attachments of the Infantry rifle platoon and squad.
