Chapter 2 – Planning and Preparing for Operations

The platoon leader is the primary planner that receives the warning order (WARNORD), operation order (OPORD), and fragmentary order (FRAGORD) from the company and develops the platoon plan to support the company’s mission. The platoon sergeant, squad leaders, forward observer (FO), radiotelephone operator (known as RTO) and other personnel may assist the platoon leader. The platoon leader employs troop leading procedures (TLP) to develop the plan and prepare for the mission. (See ATP 3-21.10 for additional information.)
